Dubai Basketball secured their first away victory of the EuroLeague season with a 93-79 win over Baskonia in Victoria-Gasteiz, Spain, during Round 5 of the competition. The triumph marked a pivotal turnaround for Dubai, improving their record to three wins and two losses after a prior home defeat.
The match saw Baskonia assert early dominance, opening with a 14-2 lead as Dubai struggled to find rhythm. However, Dubai rebounded strongly, igniting a 27-9 run fueled by Mintz’s three-point shooting and Kabengele’s effectiveness near the basket, ultimately shifting the momentum. By halftime, Dubai held a narrow 44-43 advantage.
After the break, Dubai intensified their control, starting the third quarter with an 11-2 scoring run. Filip Petrusev contributed four points early in the period, and Elie Okobo added 10 points spanning the latter part of the third quarter and the start of the fourth, helping extend the lead to double digits. Dubai maintained composure in the final quarter, leveraging better rebounding and more disciplined ball control to keep Baskonia at bay.
Dubai’s head coach Xavi Pascual highlighted the importance of the victory following their previous home setback. He acknowledged a sluggish start but praised the improved performance in the second half, particularly on defense and offense, noting the team limited turnovers to just eight and achieved 20 assists.
Individually, Petrusev led Dubai’s scoring with 17 points, while Kabengele recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bacon contributed 15 points and five assists, Okobo finished with 14 points and four assists, and Diakite added 11 points in 13 minutes off the bench. Five players reached double figures in scoring, reflecting the team’s balanced offensive output.
Dubai Basketball will face EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Italy on October 15 in Round 6 of the EuroLeague before returning to the Coca-Cola Arena for an ABA League matchup against SC Derby.
