The UAE is set to inaugurate its first Etihad Rail passenger service on June 30, marking a significant step in transforming inter-emirate travel across the country. The initial route will connect Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with tickets now available for passengers eager to experience the national rail journey.
Residents across the UAE have expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming launch, highlighting the convenience and new travel opportunities the service will provide. Aisha Salem, who lives in the central region of the UAE, plans to depart from Fujairah Station to visit family in Abu Dhabi, emphasizing the service’s potential to ease travel among the northern emirates and reduce road congestion. “It will be more comfortable not having to drive the entire distance,” she said, noting the benefits for families and commuters alike.
Others see the debut as an opportunity to explore and enjoy a novel experience. Abu Dhabi resident Mira Hassan and a friend have planned a day trip on launch day, using the train to travel to Fujairah for a staycation. Hassan remarked that this would be her first time traveling by train, an experience she hopes will offer a fresh change from typical travel routines.
Among younger passengers, enthusiasm is also high. Sharjah-based university student Omar Al Kaabi and his friends have arranged their first trip together on launch day to enjoy the service collectively. “We’ve been waiting for the rail to open for a long time,” he said.
For some, the event carries historical significance. Ajman resident Prayaga Suresh, 66, who has lived in the UAE since 1989 and holds a Golden Visa, described the inaugural journey as a “privilege” and an opportunity to be part of the nation’s development. After recently completing a nine-day Trans-Siberian railway adventure, Suresh and her husband will be departing from Fujairah to experience the Etihad Rail service.
Etihad Rail’s ticketing system offers multiple fare options designed to suit different travel needs. Introductory fares start at AED 55 for Comfort Class and AED 120 for Premium Class, with discounts for children aged 2 to 17 and seniors over 60. Infants under two travel free on a guardian’s lap. Passengers can choose from three fare tiers: Saver, Value, and Flex. Saver fares are non-refundable with automatic seat assignments, while Value includes free seat selection and ticket changes, and Flex offers the most flexibility with refunds allowed.
The rail service promises amenities such as guaranteed seating, onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, and generous luggage space. Premium Class offers additional comfort with wider seats and complimentary refreshments. Etihad Rail stated the service is designed to help passengers use travel time productively or relax, aiming to remain an affordable and attractive transportation option as the network expands.
Following the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah launch, the network will extend to include Dubai and Al Dhaid by September 30, then Al Dhafra stations from December 30, with Sharjah expected to join the service by March 30, 2027. As passenger services broaden, Etihad Rail plans to evolve its fare structure to align with customer needs and market conditions, maintaining transparency on any future pricing changes.
