For many first-time parents, the prospect of traveling with infants can feel overwhelming, yet some are finding that well-planned family vacations are both manageable and rewarding. A couple recently recounted their experience taking their four-month-old twins on holiday to the TUI Blue Orquidea resort in Bahia Feliz, Gran Canaria, sharing practical advice based on their trip.
The family chose an all-inclusive, family-friendly resort reachable via a relatively short four-and-a-half-hour flight. Preparation played a crucial role in the success of their journey. They invested in larger suitcases, a travel pram designed to fit in overhead compartments, and arranged an overnight stay at an airport hotel to ease the stress of an early morning flight. During the flight, the parents prepared bottles in advance and used ear defenders specifically designed for babies to protect their hearing. Booking a private transfer from the airport to the hotel allowed them to avoid long lines and ensured the room was ready with travel cots upon arrival.
Concerns about public reactions to babies crying proved largely unfounded. The parents noted that other travelers were primarily occupied with their own children, creating an understanding environment. Despite occasional crying episodes in the hotel’s restaurant, the noise level meant few people noticed or were bothered. The buffet-style dining also facilitated a system where one parent could remain with the children while the other fetched food.
Pacing activities carefully was another key element. The couple emphasized limiting daily plans to one or two major events, allowing time for feeding, naps, and downtime. They found it helpful to prepare bottles immediately after each feeding to be ready when the next one arrived. An on-site baby spa, part of the resort’s baby and tots club, provided a unique sensory experience both infants enjoyed. Their daily routine typically involved structured meals, playtime, naps, swimming, and rest.
Seeking help from the resort’s facilities also eased the experience. A nearby Baby Lounge with air conditioning offered a comfortable spot for changing diapers or calming the babies. The paid Baby Club service, staffed by trained professionals, gave the parents time for relaxation, including multiple visits to the pool and spa.
Highlighting the success of their trip, the family took a day excursion to Mogán, a coastal fishing village nicknamed “Little Venice.” They accessed the village by ferry and explored on foot using baby carriers, which proved more practical than strollers. The village’s sandy beach allowed the family to introduce their children to the sea, creating meaningful memories.
Reflecting on their holiday, the parents expressed relief that their initial anxieties were largely unfounded and optimism about future travel opportunities with their children. Their experience underscores that with careful planning and the right support, families with very young children can enjoy enriching vacations.
