Five budget-savvy new stays

Several new accommodation venues have opened or are set to launch across Australia, including a refurbished hostel in Melbourne, a new Marriott in Darwin, and a hotel in Perth repurposing a former police headquarters. These developments expand affordable, modern, and sustainable lodging choices, catering to diverse traveler needs and boosting investment in the country's hospitality industry.

Several new accommodation options have recently opened or are slated to open across Australia, offering travelers a variety of budget-conscious and design-forward stays.

Drifter Melbourne has undergone a multi-million dollar refurbishment aimed at redefining the traditional hostel experience. The updated facility now features “Dream Pods” equipped with charging ports and personal lockers large enough to store suitcases. Additional amenities include new communal lounges, wellness spaces, and a bar, enhancing opportunities for socializing and relaxation within the property.

In Darwin, the Courtyard by Marriott is scheduled to open its doors in mid-2025. This development marks Marriott’s presence in every Australian state and territory. The hotel has already completed phase one of its renovation, which involved upgrades to the fitness center, furnishings, and lobby area. Plans for refurbishing the on-site restaurant are currently underway.

Perth’s accommodation scene has seen the debut of Garde Hotel, which opened in 2025 in Fremantle. The hotel repurposes the site of the suburb’s former police headquarters, blending historic elements with modern design to create a unique urban lodging option.

Closer to Sydney, Discovery Parks – Lane Cove, located approximately 10 kilometers from the central business district, has introduced new deluxe cabins. These two-bedroom modular cabins accommodate up to four guests and emphasize sustainability, being constructed with eco-friendly materials and designed to maximize energy efficiency. The park also offers facilities including a swimming pool and playground, catering to families and groups.

In Brisbane’s northern suburb of Chermside, the newly opened Adina Chermside provides 148 apartment-style rooms featuring kitchens and laundries for longer stays or those seeking home-like amenities. The hotel also includes a café and bar, gym, and meeting rooms, positioning itself as a versatile choice for both leisure and business travelers.

Together, these developments highlight continued investment in Australia’s accommodation sector, broadening options for travelers seeking affordable yet contemporary and sustainable lodging solutions.
