The Calgary Flames will host their final home opener at the Scotiabank Saddledome on October 1, 2026, as they begin their 2026-27 NHL season against the Seattle Kraken. The matchup, announced by the NHL on Wednesday morning, marks the last time the Flames will open a season at their long-standing venue before moving to the new Scotia Place arena for the 2027-28 season.
Following the home opener, the Flames are scheduled to visit the Kraken for Seattle’s home opener three nights later. Prior to the regular season, Calgary will participate in a four-game preseason slate, including home games against the Kraken on September 20 and the Vancouver Canucks on September 22.
The 2026-27 NHL schedule, set for full release on Thursday, will feature several notable events. Among them is the Heritage Classic on October 25, which will see the Winnipeg Jets face off against the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.
The league will also hold its Global Series in Europe once again. The Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken are slated to play two games in Helsinki on November 12 and 14. In addition, the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks will meet in Düsseldorf, Germany, on December 18 and 20.
Outdoor hockey will continue to be a highlight of the season, with three outdoor games scheduled. The Winter Classic is set for December 31 at the University of Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium, where the Utah Mammoth will play the Colorado Avalanche. Another outdoor matchup will occur on February 20 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, featuring the Dallas Stars against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Throughout the 2026-27 campaign, the Flames intend to honor their more than four decades of history at the Saddledome, the venue located on the Stampede grounds, as they prepare for their transition to Scotia Place.
