A Florida man was arrested after reportedly abandoning his two young children in a swamp while fleeing law enforcement following a suspected drunk driving incident. Isaac Kinsey, 27, is accused of crashing his vehicle early Wednesday morning through a road closure sign and into a construction zone in Lakeland before attempting to escape on foot with his 2-year-old and 10-month-old children.

According to the Lakeland Police Department, Kinsey fled the scene carrying the children through a wooded, swampy area known to be home to alligators. Surveillance footage captured by a drone shows Kinsey struggling to navigate the dark and uneven terrain, repeatedly falling and briefly dropping both children into standing water during the pursuit.

Authorities promptly intervened, and the two children were transported to a local hospital where they received treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. Details regarding the severity of the children’s conditions were not immediately available.

Law enforcement officials did not release further information about the circumstances leading to the crash, but indicated that Kinsey was intoxicated at the time. The investigation remains ongoing as charges are being considered.

The incident highlights the dangers posed to minors in cases of impaired driving and attempted evasion of law enforcement, as well as the additional risks stemming from the natural environment in this region of Florida.
