The Florida Panthers made NHL history on Sunday with an 8-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken at home in Sunrise, marking the first time a team has recorded natural hat tricks in three consecutive games. Carter Verhaeghe led the charge with a three-goal performance, while Sam Bennett contributed his first three goals of the season. The Panthers followed up on previous natural hat tricks by Brady Tkachuk in wins against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday and the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.
Florida's streak of consecutive natural hat tricks also places them among a select group, as they are only the third team in three decades to register any type of hat trick in three straight games. The Panthers’ four hat tricks so far this season—all occurring in the last three games—equal their total from the previous three regular seasons combined. Additional goals in the victory came from Niko Mikkola and Sam Reinhart, with Matthew Tkachuk assisting three times.
In other NHL action, the Philadelphia Flyers secured their first win of the season, defeating the Ottawa Senators 3-1 at home. Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone each had a goal and an assist to boost the Flyers, while goaltender Dan Vladar made 25 saves. The victory ended Philadelphia’s historically poor start, which stood at 0-6-3. Prior to this game, the Flyers had not scored more than two goals in any matchup this season until an empty-net goal by Trevor Zegras in the closing seconds.
The Carolina Hurricanes continued their strong start with a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on the road, extending their winning streak to seven games. Nikolaj Ehlers, a former Jet, scored a power-play goal early in the third period to break a tie, shortly after which Mark Jankowski and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also found the net for Carolina. The Hurricanes currently lead the Eastern Conference with 15 points through nine games.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 at Amalie Arena, improving their home record to 5-0 this season. Nikita Kucherov scored twice, and Jake Guentzel added a goal and an assist, including the game-winning score in the third period. Goaltender Dennis Hildeby stopped 12 shots, while Pontus Holmberg and Brayden Point—who had two assists—also contributed to the Lightning’s comeback victory.
