Fluminense advanced to the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores despite a 2-1 defeat against Argentina’s Platense on Tuesday in Buenos Aires. The Brazilian club secured their place with a 3-2 aggregate score over the two legs.

Platense took the lead in the second leg with goals from Guido Mainero in the 30th minute and Bruno Sepúlveda just before halftime, leveling the aggregate at 2-2. However, Fluminense reclaimed the advantage when Agustín Canobbio scored in the 57th minute, providing the decisive goal to send the defending champions through.

The first leg, held at Fluminense’s Maracanã Stadium, had seen the Brazilians establish a 2-0 lead with goals from Nonato and Hulk. Their resilience in the second leg ensured the club’s progression despite the away loss.

This achievement marks Fluminense’s third appearance in the Copa Libertadores semifinals, with previous runs in 2008 and 2023. Meanwhile, Platense’s spirited campaign came to an end just short of the semifinals, narrowly missing the chance to reach this stage for the first time in their history.
