Hamam Al-Hammami, the flydubai co-pilot accused of attempting to hijack a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv last month, reportedly made a series of misogynistic remarks on social media in the years leading up to the incident. The 29-year-old Omani national faces charges related to the attack on the flight’s captain on September 30, when he allegedly assaulted the pilot with a crash axe in an attempt to seize control of the aircraft.

Passengers subdued Al-Hammami by breaking into the cockpit and restraining him with headphone wires. A reserve flydubai pilot, who happened to be traveling on the flight, safely landed the plane at a regional airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Following the emergency landing, Al-Hammami was detained and later transferred to Abu Dhabi for interrogation.

An investigation into Al-Hammami’s online activity, which reviewed over 3,000 tweets, revealed that he frequently expressed views aligned with the misogynistic “manosphere” community. Among his posts, he disparaged women as primarily motivated by financial gain and used derogatory language to describe them. In one tweet from January 2022, Al-Hammami stated he had “never touched a girl in my life” despite having numerous opportunities, attributing this to divine protection from temptation. He also referred to women as “cheap, rotten flesh” and suggested their sole role was sexual.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the attempted hijacking. Investigations remain ongoing as officials continue to question Al-Hammami about his actions and potential links to larger networks or ideological motivations. The incident marked an unprecedented security breach involving a commercial flight bound for Israel, raising concerns about airline safety in the region.
