Italian authorities have questioned several professional footballers as part of an investigation into an alleged prostitution ring reportedly involving up to 50 players. The inquiry, centered in Milan, has drawn attention across Italian football.
Among those summoned by prosecutors is Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori, 24, who spoke with police but is not officially under investigation. Lazio’s Daniel Maldini, son of former AC Milan star Paolo Maldini, and former Bologna defender Kevin Bonifazi were also questioned. Like Calafiori, neither Maldini nor Bonifazi face formal allegations and were not compelled to provide statements.
The probe has extended to include Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, 27, who has been implicated in allegations of having a sexual relationship with an underage girl. The nature of the accusations and Bastoni’s involvement have not been formally detailed by authorities.
Italian law enforcement officials began the investigation following reports that a prostitution ring operating in connection with prominent figures in the sport involved numerous players. Prosecutors in Milan have taken a cautious approach, calling in key individuals connected to the case to provide information while maintaining that many are not under active suspicion.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed against any of the footballers named. Authorities continue to examine the extent and details of the alleged ring as part of efforts to address potential misconduct within professional football circles in Italy.
