A new hotel has opened in Pererenan, an emerging area near Canggu, Bali, offering a blend of modern amenities and a village-like atmosphere. Noema, a 157-room property, is situated down a laneway surrounded by rice paddies and leafy streets lined with boutiques and cafés. Despite its proximity to the busier Canggu, Pererenan currently presents a quieter environment, which is reflected in the hotel’s name—Noema, meaning calm.

The hotel’s design emphasizes a low-rise, treehouse-style structure aimed at blending with the natural setting. Its interior features include terrazzo flooring, woven light fixtures, and terracotta-toned sunken couches. Guests have access to a range of facilities such as a three-story playground for children, a rock-climbing wall, a central pool with beanbags, and a rooftop bar. Rooms are colorful and comfortable, with separate lounges, bars, and dining areas designed to accommodate both families and digital nomads, who have become a visible presence in nearby outdoor cafés.

Noema offers multiple dining options on-site, including the Indonesian restaurant Paparempa and Mamaloma, alongside an extensive local room-service menu. Still, the area’s growing culinary scene has attracted attention, with Shelter, a renowned Mediterranean restaurant located nearby, drawing frequent patronage. Shelter is known for dishes smoked over fire under the guidance of chef Stephen Moore, set in a tropical ambiance. According to Laure Juhen, owner-operator of the nearby boutique La Reserve 1785, the food scene in Pererenan has rapidly evolved from near nonexistence to a vibrant hub offering quality cuisine.

The neighborhood also hosts a variety of specialty shops, with organic grocers and leisure wear outlets such as Muka and Myra Peñaloza Shop & Tea Sanctuary near Shelter standing out as local favorites. For those seeking relaxation beyond the hotel, Noema’s rooftop Korean spa, Oori, provides wellness services including ice plunges and an infrared sauna.

While Pererenan Beach is within walking distance, it features rough black sand and is less visually appealing. Visitors are advised to take the ocean path to Canggu for more traditionally scenic beach views. The combination of serene surroundings, contemporary amenities, and an evolving culinary and retail scene positions Pererenan, and Noema in particular, as a noteworthy destination for travelers seeking a quieter alternative to Bali’s more established hotspots.
