The UK government has announced an additional £2 million in funding for Cleveland Police to enhance efforts against serious organised crime in the region. The announcement was made by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood during a statement in the House of Commons.
Mahmood acknowledged the concerns of residents following a recent series of incidents occurring in close succession within the area. She emphasized the government's commitment to upholding law and order, stating that lawlessness would not be tolerated and expressing full support for the police in addressing criminal activity.
This funding boost is part of a broader financial increase for police forces nationwide, which has led to Cleveland Police’s total budget rising to approximately £197.8 million, representing an increase of about £7 million compared to 2025. In addition to the funding increase, the government has also deployed extra officers to the region to strengthen policing capabilities.
