ITV’s new adaptation of Graham Norton’s novel Forever Home relocates the story from its original Irish setting to Northumbria, marking a departure from the 2022 adaptation of Norton's Holding, which remained faithful to its Co Cork backdrop. The casting of actors such as Denise Welch and Kevin Whately reinforces the show’s distinctly Northern English atmosphere, reminiscent of other regional dramas like Vera.

The narrative centers on Robert, portrayed by Douglas Henshall, and his younger partner Carol, played by Amy Nuttall. Carol takes on the role following the disappearance of Robert’s wife.
