John Alford, a former actor known for his roles in "Grange Hill" and "London's Burning," died in prison on March 13 at the age of 54. An inquest at Norfolk coroner’s court has provisionally attributed his death to ischaemic heart disease, a condition characterized by the narrowing of the arteries, which limits the heart’s supply of oxygen-rich blood.
Alford was serving an eight-and-a-half-year sentence at HMP Bure in Norwich after being convicted in January for sexually assaulting two teenage girls. The victims, aged 14 and 15, were intoxicated following a night out. According to court proceedings, Alford engaged in sexual activity twice with the younger girl at a property in Hertfordshire in 2022 and molested the other while she was asleep.
The provisional cause of death was recorded at the hearing, which has been adjourned with a full inquest scheduled for September 11.
