A former actor who portrayed Taliban leader Mullah Omar threatened to detonate a bomb on a London bus after being asked to lower his music volume, according to court reports. Abdul Lasharie, 47, was involved in the incident on August 15 while traveling to Clapham Junction in South London.
Lasharie allegedly shouted at a couple who requested he turn down his music, declaring, “Are you stupid? I’ve got a suicide vest. I’m gonna slay you,” and made further threatening remarks directed at the passengers. The couple described feeling "utterly traumatised" following the confrontation.
Authorities arrested Lasharie as he disembarked from the bus. During the hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, it was revealed that he had been experiencing mental health difficulties and increased alcohol consumption following the breakdown of his marriage. Lasharie pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated bomb hoax charge and was subsequently sentenced to 26 weeks in jail.
Lasharie is known for his acting role as Mullah Omar in the 2019 documentary series "Spy Wars," which was streamed on the Smithsonian Channel.
