In a message posted on Instagram the same day, Chung acknowledged that she is undergoing a challenging period in her life and emphasized that her priority is recovery. Chung also appealed for privacy for herself and her family, asking the public to respect their need for space during this difficult time.

Singer and actress Toby Leung, a close friend of Chung’s, was seen waiting outside the hospital’s ICU with other friends. On September 12, Leung reassured fans that Chung was doing well. Another close friend, actress Sherming Yiu, emphasized that their group of friends would continue to provide support and accompaniment throughout Chung’s recovery. Chung’s friends, including Charmaine Sheh, Angela Tong, Janet Chow, and Annie Man, form a close-knit circle that dates back to their days working together at the television network TVB in the 2000s.

Concerns about Chung’s health had surfaced earlier after photos from Janet Chow’s recent birthday party showed the former actress had lost a noticeable amount of weight. This led to speculation that Chung might be suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative motor neuron disease that had affected her mother. However, friends have dismissed these rumors, explaining that Chung had merely been experiencing flu-like symptoms and fatigue during the event.
