Former Illinois state senator Kirk Dillard and his wife, Stephanie, have sold their Hinsdale residence for $1.25 million and moved into a downsized town home within the same community. The six-bedroom, 5,295-square-foot house, located in northwest Hinsdale, was sold on September 30 after being listed in June for just under $1.3 million.

Dillard, 71, who served as the state senator for Illinois’ 24th District from 1993 to 2014, purchased the home in 2000 for $635,000. The property, built in 1998, includes 3½ bathrooms, dual main-floor offices, a kitchen with custom cabinetry and high-end appliances, a breakfast room, family room, and a finished basement with a full second kitchen. Outdoor amenities feature a freshly painted exterior, paver brick patio, pergola, a high brick privacy wall, and an attached two-car garage. The property carried a $14,741 property tax bill for the 2025 tax year.

Dillard has a long history in public service, working as chief of staff for former Governor Jim Edgar during Edgar’s first term and as chair of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) board from 2014 until the authority was reorganized and renamed the Northern Illinois Transit Authority on September 1, 2026.

Reflecting on the sale, Dillard emphasized a focus on family and local roots, noting that Hinsdale, his hometown, was where his father began teaching at Hinsdale Central High School. “After 26 years and raising a family in the house, it was time to downsize now that our children have graduated college,” he said. The couple’s new residence, a three-bedroom, 3,007-square-foot town home in Hinsdale, was acquired in May for $950,000. Dillard highlighted the neighborhood’s family-friendly environment, the presence of young children, and proximity to highly rated schools as key factors in both their decision to stay in the area and the home’s market value.

The buyer of the house reportedly includes a member of the local school board with young children, further underscoring the appeal of the school district. Both transactions were handled by real estate agent Mike McCurry of Compass, a former Minnesota Vikings football player.
