Former NBA player Malik Beasley is in discussions with federal prosecutors to reach a plea agreement in a gambling-related case, his attorney confirmed Saturday. Beasley initially pleaded not guilty to allegations that he manipulated his performance in certain 2024 games to benefit sports bettors and manage his personal debts.

In July, Beasley entered his plea in a New York federal court as part of a broader investigation into illegal sports gambling. The case has ensnared several high-profile figures, with more than three dozen individuals arrested in connection to the scheme.

Beasley’s lawyer, Steve Haney, indicated that negotiations with the Department of Justice are ongoing and that a resolution is anticipated soon. Details of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Alongside Beasley, sports agent Paolo Zamorano also faces charges in the wide-ranging indictment, which includes six defendants. Zamorano has maintained a not guilty plea as investigators continue to unravel the extent of the gambling operation.

The federal case highlights the ongoing crackdown on illicit betting practices involving professional athletes and industry insiders. Authorities allege that altering game outcomes for gambling gains undermines the integrity of sports and violates federal laws. The investigation is part of a significant effort to address corruption in sports through legal enforcement.
