Former NBA player Lamar Odom is expected to enter a plea deal in a Las Vegas driving under the influence (DUI) case, his attorney confirmed. Odom, 46, was arrested on January 17 and subsequently charged with DUI, speeding, and failure to stay within a lane.
According to defense lawyer Michael Becker, Odom plans to enter a no-contest plea that would reduce the DUI charge to reckless driving. Through this plea, Odom would accept the conditions set by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office without formally admitting guilt.
Odom had initially pleaded not guilty in March. A bench trial was scheduled for Tuesday in Las Vegas Justice Court but was postponed to allow for the plea entry, which is expected to take place later this month. Becker indicated that Odom is not anticipated to attend the hearing in person.
The arrest occurred after a Nevada State Police Highway Patrol trooper observed Odom speeding and changing lanes without signaling on a Las Vegas highway. Upon stopping the vehicle, the trooper reported that Odom appeared with bloodshot eyes and emitted an odor consistent with marijuana use.
The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has not provided immediate comment on the case.
