Former New York Governor George Pataki is traveling to Ukraine as part of an ongoing humanitarian effort amid the country’s conflict with Russia. This marks Pataki’s seventh visit to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in 2022, conducted under the auspices of the Pataki Center’s campaign to support communities impacted by the war.

Prior to his arrival in Ukraine, Pataki visited Hungary to participate in commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, a significant uprising against Soviet control. Pataki, whose family has Hungarian roots, emphasized the importance of supporting freedom and resilience in both Hungary and Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

During the current trip, Pataki’s group is focusing on sponsoring youth sports programs aimed at providing recreational opportunities for children affected by the ongoing conflict. Pataki highlighted the need to offer moments of respite and hope to young people enduring difficult circumstances. “We want to help kids living in this horrible time to have some fun and provide hope for the future,” he said.

The Pataki Center’s efforts reflect a broader push by various international groups to aid Ukraine’s civilian population as the war continues to disrupt daily life across the country. Pataki’s repeated visits underscore his ongoing commitment to humanitarian initiatives in the region.
