Former reality television personality and fitness expert Sam Wood has been transferred to a maximum-security prison in Queensland following his refusal of bail on domestic violence charges. The 46-year-old faces allegations relating to an incident on October 10 at a private residence in Noosa, located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, where he was holidaying with his family.

Wood is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation. After a magistrate denied his request for bail last week, he was initially held at the Maroochydore police watch house before being moved to Brisbane Correctional Centre in Wacol. He has since been relocated to Wolston Correctional Centre, which houses some of Queensland’s most high-profile offenders. The Queensland Corrective Services confirmed the transfer but declined to provide additional details.

Wolston Correctional Centre incarcerates notable criminals such as Brett Peter Cowan, convicted of the abduction and murder of schoolboy Daniel Morcombe in 2003, and Gerard Baden-Clay, found guilty of murdering his wife Allison. Both men are serving life sentences.

During Wood’s recent bail hearing, new allegations about the assault surfaced. Authorities claim that an argument ensued between Wood and his wife, Snezana, after they returned from dinner to their holiday accommodation on Hastings Street in Noosa. The dispute reportedly escalated when Wood allegedly pushed Snezana into a wardrobe and then continued into a hallway, where his adult stepdaughter, Eve Markoski-Wood, intervened to stop the confrontation.

According to the prosecution, Wood then approached his stepdaughter aggressively before restraining his wife by the throat, throwing her against a wall and floor while tightening his grip, which restricted her breathing. Snezana Wood reportedly suffered bruising to her forearm and grazes to her knees and told police she feared for her life during the incident.

Acting Magistrate Janelle Boegheim noted that Snezana Wood had expressed to police that she believed the assault could have been fatal.

Wood has denied the allegations. His lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, acknowledged tensions within the family but contested claims of strangulation, suggesting his client might have a self-defense claim. Cuskelly described the situation as painful and noted that Wood had been attempting to contain family difficulties for some time.

Following Wood’s arrest, DGB Health—a healthcare and beauty company that purchased his exercise and nutrition brand, 28 by Sam Wood, for $71 million in 2022—ended its commercial association with him.

Wood is scheduled to appear in court again on November 23 as the legal process continues.
