Four individuals have been arrested following an incident in which a police officer was shot in the foot in Nottingham early Sunday morning. The officer, who remains in stable condition, was injured after approaching two people on Angel Row at approximately 4:50 a.m., according to Nottinghamshire Police.
Later that evening, officers stopped a vehicle in the Radford area and arrested a 27-year-old woman on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Two other individuals inside the vehicle—a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman—were also taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.
In the early hours of Monday, police stopped another vehicle in Bedfordshire and arrested a 30-year-old man, also on suspicion of assisting an offender. All four remain in custody for questioning related to the discharge of the firearm.
At the scene on Sunday, investigators recovered what appeared to be a sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun. Forensic teams worked within two police cordons as evidence markers were placed.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas of Nottinghamshire Police stated that detectives are continuing their inquiry to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting. She expressed relief at the arrests and said they hope the developments will reassure the public. "The injured officer continues to recover in hospital and is receiving support from colleagues and loved ones," she added.
The Police Federation of England and Wales described the shooting as a stark reminder of the daily risks police officers face while carrying out their duties.
