Four individuals were detained in Lashio, northern Shan State, in connection with suspected online gambling and fraud activities, authorities said. The arrests occurred on the afternoon of October 6 at the Win Cherry Hostel, located on Byuha Road in Thiri Maha Ward, Area 4.
A joint operation involving security forces and department officials targeted Room 214 of the hostel around 3:05 p.m. based on intelligence concerning illegal online activities. The suspects named by officials are Min Hwei Sin, Ma Hwe Phyu, Kaung Win Kyi (also known as Am Wei), and Thang Yin Shi (also known as Aphyin).
During the search, the team confiscated multiple electronic devices believed to be used in the illicit operations, including four laptops, one all-in-one computer, seven mobile phones, and two Wi-Fi devices. Authorities also seized approximately K475,000 in cash, which was reportedly linked to the activities.
The suspects are being prosecuted under Section 33(a) of the Electronic Transactions Law and are in custody at Lashio Myoma Police Station. Officials emphasized ongoing efforts to curb online fraud and gambling within the region to prevent such practices from becoming widespread.
