Authorities in Nepal have charged four individuals with human trafficking for allegedly attempting to transport 25 children from Humla district to India under the guise of providing them with education. The incident came to light after Indian paramilitary force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) intercepted the group at the Gaddachauki border crossing last week and returned the children to Nepal.
According to police in Kanchanpur, an official investigation has been initiated against the four accused, with one person identified as the main suspect in orchestrating the effort to move the children across the border illegally. Sanjit Singh, the regional coordinator of the Peace Rehabilitation Home, confirmed that legal action has been taken against the individuals involved.
Details surrounding the children’s intended placement in India, as well as the motive behind their removal, remain under inquiry. Officials have yet to release further information about the identities of the suspects or the conditions in which the children were being transported.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about human trafficking in the region, particularly involving vulnerable children. Authorities from both Nepal and India continue to cooperate in monitoring border security to prevent unlawful cross-border activities.
