At least four people were injured following a series of explosions at a military site near the town of Al-Eis in northern Syria, state media reported on Monday. The blasts occurred at an ammunition depot in Aleppo province, though the precise cause remains unclear.

According to Syria’s official news agency Sana, one civilian sustained shrapnel wounds from the blasts. Two others experienced temporary breathing difficulties, while a fourth was hurt in a traffic accident reportedly caused by efforts to flee the area during the explosions. Emergency response teams evacuated three families from the vicinity and transported the injured for medical treatment.

Aleppo’s civil defence chief Faisal Mohammad Ali said the ongoing detonations hindered emergency crews from reaching the scene immediately. A local resident from Aleppo’s Hamdaniyeh neighborhood described hearing a “huge explosion,” followed by visible large flames in the distance. Aleppo governor Azzam al-Gharib requested that residents remain indoors and confirmed that hospitals, ambulances, and emergency services were operating at full capacity. Authorities closed roads leading to the site to ensure civilian safety.

This incident follows a series of similar explosions at Syrian military locations in recent weeks. On Friday, an explosion of uncertain origin at a military facility in Deir Ezzor province killed 11 people. Earlier in September, a blast at a weapons depot in Idlib province’s northwest resulted in 14 deaths and 11 injuries. Additionally, five fatalities occurred just over a week ago in the same region when a vehicle transporting munitions exploded.

Syria continues to recover from more than a decade of conflict following the ousting of longtime President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, during which time several incidents involving munitions depots have raised safety concerns. Civil defence teams report remaining on high alert amid fears of further explosions.
