Four men in their twenties died and a fifth was injured early yesterday morning when a car crashed into a lamppost in the Huyton area of Merseyside. The black Seat Cupra collided with the lamppost just before 2 a.m. while traveling from Liverpool towards Knowsley.

The deceased men were aged 23, 23, 24, and 26. They were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. A fifth passenger, aged 27, was taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Witnesses described the aftermath of the crash as severe, noting that the vehicle had split into parts and debris was scattered across the road. One resident recalled arriving to find police cordoning off the area due to the extent of the damage, including a flattened lamppost.

Merseyside Police have confirmed the fatalities and stated that the next of kin have been informed. Officers trained to support bereaved families are working to assist those affected. Superintendent Paul Holden described the incident as "a truly devastating moment" and emphasized the ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances behind the collision.

Police have also appealed to the public for any doorbell or dashcam footage that might provide additional information about the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to establish the cause of the accident.
