Frances Tiafoe claimed his first grass-court title by defeating Taylor Fritz in the final of the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Germany, on Sunday. The American player, seeded seventh, secured a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-4, against fifth-seeded Fritz in an all-American championship match. Tiafoe delivered eight aces and maintained a strong serve throughout, not facing a single break point during the contest. This triumph marked Tiafoe’s first title of the year, his inaugural championship on grass, and the fourth overall in his professional career. The win also improved his head-to-head record against Fritz to two victories in nine encounters, including a previous loss to Fritz in the semifinals of the U.S. Open two years ago.
In other grass-court tournaments, Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina won the HSBC Championships in London by overcoming former champion Tommy Paul. The match extended to three sets, with Cerundolo rallying to a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3 victory at the Andy Murray Arena. The seventh-seeded Cerundolo clinched the title on his fifth match point, securing his second trophy of the year, his second career victory on grass following his 2023 Eastbourne win, and his fifth overall.
Meanwhile, the rain-delayed Berlin Open concluded with a final between eighth-seeded Linda Noskova and third-seeded Jessica Pegula. Noskova, 21, edged out Pegula in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, to earn her second career title. Pegula, the 32-year-old American who had saved five match points to claim the Berlin title in 2024, was unable to repeat that feat against the younger Czech competitor.
At the Nottingham Open in Britain, fourth-seeded Marie Bouzkova secured her first grass-court singles title by defeating third-seeded Emma Navarro in a three-set final. Bouzkova prevailed 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-2, capturing a significant victory ahead of the grass-court season’s marquee events.
