A free vocational carpentry training course was launched on October 6 at the meeting hall of the Metmung Township Department of Rural Development, located in the Wa Self-Administered Division of Shan State, northern Myanmar. The initiative aims to enhance employment opportunities for residents in the township’s rural communities.
The opening ceremony featured remarks from U Yaw Min Tun, chairman of the Metmung Township Administration and Management Committee. During the event, U Hlaing Min Tun, head of the township’s Department of Rural Development, outlined the rationale behind the program. He noted that the vocational training courses are designed based on careful assessments of local products, market demand, labor needs, and livelihood prospects suited to the area’s specific conditions.
Following the introductions by the 20 enrolled trainees—who come from several villages including YaungUWa, Konhaung, Panhpon, and Ayekyant—trainers provided an overview of the carpentry subjects to be covered. Participants will receive both theoretical knowledge and practical skills over the 15-day course.
The department supplied all trainees with necessary materials and equipment to support the hands-on learning process. Trainers with expertise in carpentry are leading the instruction, aiming to equip participants with skills that can facilitate sustainable employment and economic development within the region.
This program reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to address rural employment challenges and to diversify income sources by promoting vocational skill development tailored to local market conditions.
