At just 17 years old, Marthylda Jameel Flores has emerged as a prominent young talent within the Filipino community in Qatar, earning recognition as a finalist in the Pinoy Popstar Qatar competition and receiving multiple accolades, including the People’s Choice Award. Born and raised in Qatar, Flores’s journey from a shy, introverted child to a confident performer reflects a story of resilience and personal growth supported by family and community.
Flores’s passion for music began at the age of two, drawn to the melodies she heard and instinctively singing along. Her first significant public exposure came when she reached the finals of her school’s PSDians Got Talent competition at seven years old. Although the experience initially made her more reserved, it planted the foundation for her future in performing arts. Motivated to overcome her shyness, she joined Tanghalang Overseas Pinoy (TOPi) at age 12, where she gradually gained the confidence to perform in front of audiences.
She credits her family as a key influence in nurturing her musical interests. Growing up in a household where music and singing were integral to daily life, Flores developed an early connection to various genres including lullabies, Disney classics, musical theatre, and jazz. After taking a two-year hiatus from singing, she returned with renewed determination, inspired in part by renowned Filipina singer Lea Salonga.
Flores describes her artistic growth as nonlinear, acknowledging that progress often includes setbacks but emphasizing the importance of persistence. She views singing not as a pursuit for recognition but as a means to connect with audiences and convey messages of hope and kindness. Her performance of “Wings” by Little Mix during the Pinoy Popstar Qatar competition exemplified this mindset; despite acknowledging imperfections, she focused on challenging herself and overcoming fear.
Throughout her career, Flores has amassed a notable portfolio of performances at significant events within the Filipino expatriate community. In 2023, she performed with her older sister, Marthyxia Jeremee, at the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers’ Dinner for a Cause, an event supporting distressed Overseas Filipino Workers. The same year also saw her placing among the Top 7 finalists in the Royal Clash Season 2 singing competition, where she earned the People’s Choice Award.
Committed to honing her skills, Flores undertook six months of vocal training at the International Academy of Indian Dance (IAID), specializing in Classical Opera and Broadway styles. This training contributed to her being affectionately dubbed the “Broadway Princess of Doha.” She has since performed at major community events, including the 125th Philippine Independence Day celebration, the OFIE-M Goes OPM Concert, the Kulinarya Gala Night, Doha Expo 2023’s The Planet Show, Geektunes 2025, and shows with the band Kalikha.
Despite her rising profile, Flores remains focused on the intrinsic value of music, emphasizing its role as a medium for emotional expression and connection. She has expressed that the venue of performance is less important than the opportunity to share her voice and inspire others. Currently among the Top 15 finalists in the Viva-led Pinoy Popstar Qatar, Flores continues to challenge herself, demonstrating that her greatest achievement lies not only in awards but in the confidence she has cultivated along the way.
