Frome Town secured a 2-1 victory over Chertsey on Saturday, a result that ended the visitors’ run at the top of the table. The match, played at Frome’s home ground, saw the Robins take control with two well-taken goals before Chertsey responded late in the game.

Frome opened the scoring in the 36th minute through Archie Ferris. The goal came from a well-executed free kick by Josh Owers, whose delivery was deflected off Chertsey defender Alex Fisher, leaving goalkeeper Luke Wynn Roberts unable to prevent the strike. The Robins extended their lead shortly after halftime. After winning successive corners, Frome launched a swift counter-attack initiated by Albie Hopkins. Hopkins found Brendan Holmes, who struck the post, and the rebound fell back to Hopkins. This time he cut inside, setting up David Duru to finish and double the hosts’ advantage.

Chertsey responded in the 70th minute with a goal from Lachlan Byrd, who scored from a cross delivered by winger Seb Bowerman. Despite the effort, Chertsey were unable to find an equalizer.

The match concluded with a moment of tension as two players were dismissed in the closing minutes. Connor Lee of Frome and Chertsey’s Zac Drew were both shown red cards following an altercation between the two sides with just two minutes remaining.

The defeat means Chertsey relinquished their position at the summit, while Frome Town continued their recent positive form with an important three points.
