BINTAN, Indonesia — The Movenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon, a new beachfront property that opened in August on Bintan’s northern coast, aims to provide a range of activities catering to families as well as individual travelers. Located about 70 minutes by ferry from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and a 20-minute drive from the resort, it offers a blend of outdoor and indoor experiences designed to accommodate guests of all ages.
The resort features 408 rooms and occupies a 310-hectare site that includes not only accommodations but also a golf course, a beach club, and recreational facilities. It is anticipated that more amenities, such as villas and additional sports courts, will open by the end of 2026.
A focal point for families is the Recreation Village, which includes a pool, sports facilities, and the Little Birds Club, catering to children aged one to 12. The kids’ club provides various free activities such as Zumba, origami, and beach-based “Ocean Treasure” shell hunts, alongside paid workshops like cookie making, pizza making, and batik painting. Additional family-friendly features include a children’s pool, wet and dry playgrounds, an arcade, and games including table tennis and billiards.
Adult guests can participate in several resort-organized activities or opt for relaxation at the Shantara Spa & Wellness. Wellness offerings include mat Pilates, aerial yoga, aerial sound baths, and outdoor fitness sessions such as power walks and high-intensity interval training beach boot camps. Spa treatments range from a 90-minute Balinese massage to longer rituals combining scrub and flower bath services.
Dining options at Movenpick Resort span multiple outlets. Port 19 offers a diversity of Asian and Western dishes with live cooking stations, while Yokatta Izakaya & Bar serves Japanese cuisine such as sushi and yakitori. Guests noted the quality of the Japanese restaurant as comparable to offerings in Singapore, although some found the Sonada Beach Club’s menu limited and less satisfying. Prices for main dishes vary, with local fare like nasi goreng and international options like seafood pasta available. The resort also hosts a daily complimentary Chocolate Hour featuring desserts and snacks.
Transportation to the island is served by Bintan Resorts Ferries, with round-trip economy fares from Singapore around $90 to $102 per adult. Transfers between the ferry terminal and the resort are included. Room rates begin at approximately 1.85 million rupiah per night before taxes and service fees, with meal costs additional. The resort is working to reactivate its own ferry terminal by 2027, which could simplify arrival and immigration procedures for guests.
Although the resort is designed to maximize enjoyment in dry weather, visitors in the rainy season should be prepared with options for indoor activities, as showers may impact outdoor plans. The best time to visit is generally from March through October when conditions tend to be drier.
The Movenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon represents a growing offering in the Bintan leisure market, combining family-friendly amenities with wellness and recreational opportunities to attract a mix of visitors.
