A fundraiser has raised nearly $85,000 to support the lone holdout juror in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, whose case ended in a hung jury after the juror refused to agree with the other 11 jurors' verdict. The juror, described only as a Black man in his 30s, was the sole dissenting vote in a trial concerning Clancy’s 2023 conviction for the deaths of her three young children in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

The GiveSendGo campaign, initiated by Tom Hennessey, has raised $84,750 of its $100,000 goal as of Sunday night. The funds are intended to assist the juror with legal fees, personal security, and any income lost due to backlash stemming from his decision to withhold agreement on the jury’s verdict.

During the trial, 36-year-old Lindsay Clancy was charged with strangling her three children—Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months—in January 2023. Eleven jurors found her not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. However, the holdout juror challenged this conclusion, refusing to accept the defense’s argument that Clancy’s mental state at the time absolved her of criminal responsibility.

According to the fundraiser’s description, the holdout juror “looked at what she did, not the brand of Zoloft” prescribed to Clancy. When defense attorneys requested his removal for allegedly failing to adhere to the standard of reasonable doubt, the judge declined to dismiss him, leading to the jury’s deadlock and a mistrial. Clancy is expected to face retrial.

The fundraiser has received an outpouring of support for the juror, with many commenters praising his stance in the case. However, reports have emerged detailing the juror’s personal background, including allegations of domestic violence, an active restraining order, and an ongoing eviction proceeding related to unpaid rent.

At this stage, it remains unclear how these allegations may impact the juror’s involvement in the case or the public’s perception of his role. The trial’s unresolved outcome has set the stage for a retrial in the coming months.
