Netanel Shakron, an Israeli resident of the settlement Alei Zahav in the central West Bank, was laid to rest Monday evening following a fatal shooting attack the previous day. The 48-year-old was shot while visiting the Ein Raya spring near the settlement of Neve Tzuf with his son on Sunday.

Shakron, an information systems analyst at Hashchara Insurance Company, is survived by his wife Merav and their six children. Merav Shakron, a lecturer at Ariel University, spoke emotionally at the funeral, reflecting on the life and family she and her husband built together. She expressed her grief and uncertainty about the future, describing the loss as a profound personal tragedy.

According to Israeli authorities, the attack was carried out by a Palestinian assailant who opened fire from a vehicle at a group of Israelis at the spring before fleeing towards the nearby Palestinian town of Birzeit. The attacker abandoned the vehicle and was apprehended three hours later at a hospital. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the suspect was wounded by an army tracker operating in the area.

Hamas later praised the attack, describing it as retaliation against "continuous incursions by settlers and occupation leaders into Al-Aqsa Mosque" and settler-related violence in the West Bank.

In response to the incident, the IDF imposed a security closure on villages surrounding the area and announced preparations for a "brigade operation" in the village where the attacker resided, with the goal of arresting individuals suspected of aiding the perpetrator.

Shakron’s older sister also delivered a eulogy during the funeral, recalling her brother’s warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to his family. She spoke of the void left by his passing and expressed disbelief that he would not return home.

The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, called for a firm military response to the shooting. Dagan urged the Israeli government to adopt a more proactive approach to security following the "heinous murder," emphasizing the need for decisive action rather than limited measures.

The attack marks another escalation in violence in the contested West Bank region, where tensions between Israeli settlers and Palestinian residents remain high amid ongoing disputes over land and security.
