Hundreds gathered to mourn a young mother and her niece who died in a house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, on August 26. Natalie McDonald, 34, and her seven-year-old niece, Valentina Foster, were fatally injured in the blaze at a family home where Valentina had been staying for a sleepover.

McDonald, described by her family as a vibrant and popular figure, had been married for just nine months and was a mother to one child. During the funeral procession, mourners dressed in bright pink and orange followed a horse-drawn carriage carrying McDonald’s coffin on an eight-mile journey to the crematorium.

Speaking about her daughter, Lisa Kirton said Natalie was known as “Party Queen,” celebrating her outgoing personality and willingness to help others. “She was party central. She was loud and bubbly and known as the Party Queen. She would do absolutely anything for anybody and everybody loved her,” Kirton said.

Authorities have charged a man with two counts of murder in connection with the fire. Details surrounding the circumstances of the blaze have not been disclosed. The investigation is ongoing as the community continues to grieve the loss of both victims.
