A Brooklyn woman was arraigned on petty larceny charges Wednesday following the alleged theft of a three-month-old kitten from a local bodega. Mary Sierra, who was released without bail, denied the accusations and insisted she is an animal lover.

The incident took place last Thursday at the Eighth Street Mini Market in Park Slope, where surveillance footage showed two individuals walking away with the kitten, named Jabal. The kitten’s owner, Imad “Jimmy” Innad, disputed Sierra’s defense and maintained that the theft had occurred.

Sierra told reporters she did not steal the cat and planned to pursue legal action against those accusing her. “I’m an animal lover. I got three rescue dogs,” she said. She also expressed frustration over being detained, stating, “I went to jail yesterday for this s--t. They locked me up, they locked me up for this s--t. I did not steal the f--king cat.”

According to Sierra, she encountered the kitten several houses away from the market and was persuaded by neighbors to return it. Innad responded skeptically, questioning whom Sierra intended to sue and reaffirming his position that the kitten was stolen.

The case remains under legal review as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and recovery of Jabal.
