A furniture company has been fined £20,000 after illegally dumping two tons of rubbish on the grounds of Royal Blackburn Hospital in Lancashire. The fly-tipping incident occurred in April 2025 and was uncovered following an investigation by local authorities.

EMM Furniture Ltd was found responsible for abandoning a substantial amount of waste at the hospital site, prompting Blackburn With Darwen Council to pursue legal action. Officials traced the company through evidence left at the scene, including a £20 takeaway pizza receipt found among the discarded materials.

Burnley Magistrates’ Court imposed a penalty that includes the fine as well as £539 toward council costs and £354 to cover the expenses of waste removal. A council spokesperson highlighted the investigation as an example of how fly-tippers can be identified despite attempts to conceal their involvement.

The case underscores ongoing efforts by local governments to tackle illegal dumping, protect public spaces, and hold offenders accountable for environmental violations.
