Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has withdrawn from international duty with the Netherlands due to an ankle injury sustained during their recent UEFA Nations League match. The 27-year-old was forced off in the first half of the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Serbia on Sunday after a challenge from Serbia midfielder Sasa Lukic.

Following the injury, Liverpool confirmed that Gakpo would return to the club for further evaluation by their medical team. The exact severity of the ankle problem has not yet been disclosed, and it remains uncertain whether he will be fit to participate in Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester City, scheduled after the international break.

Gakpo has been in strong form this season, contributing two goals and four assists for Liverpool. His absence will also see him miss the Netherlands’ remaining Nations League matches against Greece and the second leg against Serbia.

The injury setback adds to Arsenal manager Andoni Iraola’s concerns during the current international pause, as striker Alexander Isak has similarly returned to Arsenal carrying a minor injury sustained while representing Sweden. Both players’ fitness will be closely monitored ahead of their clubs’ return to domestic competition.
