Galopin Des Champs, the renowned racehorse and two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, has died following an injury sustained in his field. The ten-year-old gelding, who retired from racing just five days prior, was preparing to begin a new career in eventing under the guidance of Isabelle Walsh, daughter of former leading jockey Ruby Walsh.

According to a statement released by Ruby Walsh, Galopin Des Champs was discovered with a severe injury high on his near front leg when he was brought out for exercise. Despite immediate veterinary intervention and diagnostic imaging, the damage was found to be extensive and beyond repair, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize the horse.

Galopin Des Champs achieved significant success on the National Hunt racing circuit, notably securing consecutive Cheltenham Gold Cup victories in 2023 and 2024. Following his retirement from racing, plans were made for him to transition to eventing, a sport combining dressage, cross-country, and show jumping, under Isabelle Walsh’s care.

The loss of Galopin Des Champs has been met with sadness across the racing community, where he was celebrated not only for his athletic accomplishments but also for his character and resilience.
