Alejandro Garnacho has expressed no regrets over his recent departure from Manchester United, describing his decision to join Chelsea as straightforward and necessary for his career progression. The 20-year-old Argentine winger completed his move to Stamford Bridge for a reported £40 million after falling out of favor under Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Atalanta in Bergamo, Garnacho said leaving United was a step he needed to take to continue developing as a player. “Sometimes, you have to change things to take a step forward,” he stated. When asked if he felt any sadness over how his exit unfolded, Garnacho replied simply, “No.” His primary focus at Chelsea is to prove his abilities on the pitch and establish himself within the team.
During the summer transfer window, Garnacho drew interest from other clubs, including Bayern Munich. However, he chose to remain in the English Premier League, citing his desire to continue competing at the highest level in England.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has reportedly ruled out deploying fellow teenager Cole Palmer for the Champions League fixture due to concerns over managing his workload during a congested schedule. Meanwhile, forward Liam Delap is unavailable with a shoulder injury.
Garnacho’s arrival at Chelsea comes as the club aims to strengthen its squad ahead of a challenging season domestically and in Europe. His transfer from Manchester United marks a high-profile switch between two of England’s biggest clubs, following a period in which the Argentine struggled for consistent playing time at Old Trafford.
