Alejandro Garnacho has stated he holds no regrets about his departure from Manchester United following a £40 million transfer to Chelsea. The Argentinian winger, who had been sidelined under Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick before Ruben Amorim’s tenure, made the move to Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.
Speaking for the first time since joining Chelsea, Garnacho explained that leaving United was a necessary step to advance his career. “I came here to play my football, to show people the player I am,” he said in an interview ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Atalanta in Bergamo. When asked if he was regretful or saddened by how his exit unfolded, Garnacho responded simply, “No.”
Although Bayern Munich had expressed interest in signing the 19-year-old earlier during the transfer window, Garnacho preferred to remain in the Premier League, viewing Chelsea as the right destination to continue his development. He described the timing of the move as “the right moment” and characterized the decision as straightforward.
Chelsea’s squad for the Champions League fixture saw Cole Palmer absent due to concerns about his capacity to manage a demanding schedule, while Liam Delap remained sidelined with a shoulder injury. The starting lineup featured players including goalkeeper Sanchez, defenders Gusto, Chalobah, Badiashile, and Cucurella, with midfielders Caicedo and Fernandez, and forwards Estevao Willian, Joao Pedro, Gittens, and Guiu.
Garnacho’s arrival adds to Chelsea’s attacking options as the club seeks to enhance its competitiveness both domestically and in Europe this season.
