Gary Wilson has been appointed as the new head coach of Ireland’s men’s cricket team, succeeding Heinrich Malan, who stepped down shortly after Ireland achieved a historic series win against India. Malan’s resignation came less than 24 hours following Ireland’s clean sweep in the T20 series against the reigning Twenty20 world champions.

The series marked a significant milestone for Irish cricket, with the team securing their first-ever victory over India in any format during the opening match in Belfast. Ireland followed this with another win on the same ground 48 hours later, sealing a 2-0 series triumph.

Wilson, a former wicketkeeper-batsman, brings extensive experience to his new role, having represented Ireland in 292 matches across different formats before retiring from international cricket in 2020. His appointment is expected to bring continuity to the team following Malan’s departure during a period of notable success.
