Gas Malaysia Bhd has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Air Liquide Engineering & Construction to explore collaborative opportunities in low-carbon hydrogen, carbon dioxide off-take, and bio-liquefied natural gas (Bio-LNG) projects in Malaysia. The agreement was signed during Gastech 2026, held in Bangkok.
The partnership aims to combine Gas Malaysia’s extensive market presence and infrastructure with Air Liquide’s expertise in industrial gas technologies and engineering to develop sustainable energy solutions. Both companies intend to evaluate renewable gas initiatives, including Bio-LNG developments and CO2 off-take projects involving facilities operated by Gas Malaysia as well as external parties.
In addition to these specific areas, the collaboration will explore broader prospects for industrial decarbonisation through advanced engineering and technological solutions. Air Liquide’s technology for low-carbon hydrogen applications will also play a key role in the joint efforts.
Azli Mohamed, president and group chief executive officer of Gas Malaysia, highlighted the importance of practical decarbonisation strategies that maintain reliable energy supply amid the evolving Malaysian energy landscape. He said the partnership leverages Gas Malaysia’s infrastructure and market reach alongside Air Liquide’s global capabilities to support customers in managing the energy transition.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to expanding beyond conventional gas supply through partnerships that unlock new opportunities in renewable gas, hydrogen, and other lower carbon industrial solutions,” Azli stated.
The collaboration aligns with Gas Malaysia’s GM32 strategic plan and builds on the group’s ongoing efforts towards reducing carbon emissions. As a member of the MMC Group, Gas Malaysia noted that these initiatives also contribute to the objectives set forth in Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, which aims to foster a more sustainable and lower-carbon economy.
