GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (GR-WRT) clinched its sixth consecutive FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) manufacturers’ title Sunday at Rally Chile, equaling a longstanding record previously set by Italian manufacturer Lancia. The team secured a dominant one-two finish, with Oliver Solberg and co-driver Elliott Edmondson taking first place in the No. 99 Toyota GR YARIS Rally1, followed by Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais in second driving the No. 1 Toyota GR YARIS Rally1.
The victory marked Solberg and Edmondson’s second win of the 2026 season, their first having come at the season opener in Monte Carlo. Their performance in Chile saw them overcome challenging wet and muddy conditions on the gravel roads of the Bio Bío region, where they built an early lead that they extended as the stages dried and track surfaces became more abrasive. The duo secured the fastest time on the rally-closing Power Stage, ultimately finishing 16.6 seconds ahead of their teammates.
Ogier and Landais recovered from a sixth-place position after the opening stage to secure second, also topping the Super Sunday classification. With this result, Ogier matched Sébastien Loeb’s record of 120 podium finishes in WRC events.
The team’s latest manufacturers’ title brings Toyota’s total to 10, drawing level with Lancia, who had held the record for consecutive manufacturers’ championships between 1987 and 1992. GAZOO Racing’s drivers currently occupy the top four spots in the drivers’ championship standings. With two rounds remaining in the 2026 season, the manufacturers' championship outcome is decided, though the drivers' title remains highly contested among the team’s five drivers: Elfyn Evans, Sami Pajari, Oliver Solberg, Sébastien Ogier, and Takamoto Katsuta.
Akio Toyoda, Chairman of GR-WRT, expressed pride in the team’s achievement and gratitude to supporters and partners. He underscored the ongoing competitiveness of the drivers’ championship and encouraged the team’s drivers to continue pushing through the final two rounds.
The 2026 WRC season now moves to Rally Italia Sardegna, scheduled from October 1 to 4. This edition will run in autumn for the first time since 2020 and features demanding gravel stages characterized by narrow pathways and rocky, abrasive surfaces.
GAZOO Racing traces its motorsport heritage back over six decades, participating in various disciplines worldwide. The team emphasizes that knowledge gained from racing under extreme conditions contributes to the development of production vehicles. Since 2026, the organization has operated under the name GAZOO Racing, competing at the highest levels of motorsport including the WRC, as well as in customer racing using production cars.
