GB News is preparing to launch a new digital radio station focused exclusively on British music, marking a strategic expansion beyond its television operations. The station, named GB Music Radio, is scheduled to begin broadcasting next month and will feature a 24-hour playlist dedicated solely to artists from the United Kingdom.

The programming will span six decades of British music and include six hours of commercial-free music on Saturdays, branded as the Great British Party Night. In addition to music, GB Music Radio will provide hourly news updates along with traffic and travel information.

An industry insider indicated that the new station aims to capture market share from BBC Radio 2, which has seen a decline in audience numbers in recent years. Radio 2’s breakfast show, for example, experienced record-low ratings under presenter Scott Mills, creating a perceived opportunity for GB Music Radio to attract listeners.

The launch is being overseen by GB Media, a newly established division within GB News designed to drive growth into new media sectors. The move follows GB News’s summer staffing cuts, which reduced its workforce by approximately one-third as part of efforts to manage its financial losses. Since its 2021 debut, GB News has reported losses exceeding £140 million.

This initiative comes as GB News anticipates the debut of Reform TV, an online platform that could potentially fragment the Right-wing audience base that GB News currently serves. The broadcaster is owned by Sir Paul Marshall, a hedge fund tycoon, and Legatum, a Dubai-based investment firm. Further new projects from GB Media are expected to be announced in the coming months as the company seeks to diversify its media offerings.
