The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) emphasized its commitment to strengthening global partnerships and expanding its international role during a coordination meeting held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting took place Sunday and was chaired by Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, the current GCC chairman, with participation from foreign ministers of the member states, including Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi highlighted the bloc's increasing engagement in international forums and its efforts to broaden relationships with regional and international countries, organizations, and groups. According to Al-Budaiwi, these initiatives reflect the GCC’s enhanced global standing and underscore its strategic partnerships.

The foreign ministers’ gathering focused on coordination and consultation among GCC members concerning issues of common interest. This approach aims to consolidate a unified Gulf position and promote joint action across regional and international platforms. During the meeting, ministers reviewed upcoming preparations for a series of joint ministerial sessions scheduled to occur alongside the UN General Assembly. These sessions involve cooperation between the GCC and various countries and regional and international entities.

The ministers also aligned their positions on topics slated for discussion in these forthcoming sessions, intending to advance shared interests and broaden cooperation. Al-Budaiwi said that such joint ministerial meetings exemplify the mutual desire of GCC states and their partners to deepen their relations. He stressed that this cooperation is motivated by the crucial role the GCC plays in enhancing security, stability, and development, while facilitating wider opportunities for dialogue and collaboration both regionally and internationally.

Reaffirming the GCC’s dedication to bolstering regional and global relations, Al-Budaiwi underscored the importance of establishing effective and sustainable partnerships grounded in mutual respect and shared objectives. He further noted that these partnerships contribute to the promotion of peace, security, and development across regions, while reinforcing the alliance’s cohesive stances on major international and regional matters.
