The Advisory and Regulatory Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) convened its 68th meeting on October 3 in Kuwait City. The gathering, organized by Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, was chaired by acting Assistant Undersecretary for Electrical Transmission Networks Eng. Faisal Al-Sumait.

Committee members reviewed various agenda items focused on enhancing the performance and activities of the GCCIA. Discussions centered on the support provided to the electrical grids of member states to ensure the reliability and stability of the regional power system. Participants addressed the ongoing efforts to integrate the national grids of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to strengthen interconnection capabilities.

The meeting also covered operational incidents that have affected the interconnection system, alongside measures implemented to maintain uninterrupted service during the summer months, a period typically marked by high electricity demand across the region. Additionally, the committee examined technical and operational issues related to the cross-border transmission of electricity among GCC states.

This session is part of a broader initiative for continuous coordination among GCC members aimed at elevating the preparedness and efficiency of the regional electrical interconnection. By fostering closer cooperation, the participating countries seek to ensure the security, sustainability, and resilience of electricity supply throughout the Gulf region.
