The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has recognized Qatar Charity (QC) for its housing initiatives through its Alaqraboon Centre, awarding the organisation in the non-profit institutions category during the fourth Gulf Housing Week held in Bahrain. The announcement coincided with the results of the seventh GCC Housing Award in 2026, themed “Integrated Services Housing Project Enhancing Quality of Life.”
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi presented the commemorative shield and certificate to Faisal Rashid al-Fehaida, Executive Director of the Alaqraboon Centre, in the presence of Bahrain’s Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi. The award highlights the centre’s contribution of over QR1 million toward housing support for low-income families in Qatar, focusing on developing practical housing solutions that address social needs, strengthen family stability, and improve overall quality of life.
Al-Fehaida described the recognition as a reflection of the centre’s humanitarian and social role, emphasizing its commitment to targeted, sustainable initiatives that provide housing assistance for financially vulnerable families. He also noted the importance of enhanced cooperation and partnerships between government bodies, civil society, and non-profit organisations to create long-term, community-based housing solutions.
This latest honour follows previous recognitions for Qatar Charity in 2025. In May of that year, QC was honoured at the 23rd GCC Housing Ministers Meeting in Kuwait, receiving an award in the private-sector and charitable organisations category for its contributions to Qatar’s housing sector. These efforts included covering rental costs for low-income families and undertaking the “Renovation” project, which repairs older homes and furnishes them to foster healthier living environments.
In September 2025, Qatar Charity also received an honorary shield during a ceremony held alongside ministerial meetings of GCC civil service, labour, and social affairs authorities. The organisation was acknowledged for its leading role within Qatar’s civil society, particularly in the social and humanitarian fields, and for its significant impact both locally and internationally.
The recognitions underscore the broader importance of collaborative efforts between public institutions and non-governmental organisations to promote social stability and advance sustainable development in the Gulf region. Qatar Charity’s initiatives, particularly through the Alaqraboon Centre, represent a focused approach to addressing housing challenges faced by low-income families, aiming to create lasting positive effects on communities across Qatar.
