Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states have increasingly positioned themselves as key players in international mediation and peacebuilding efforts, according to Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi. Speaking at the 9th Istanbul Mediation Conference on October 23, Albudaiwi highlighted the Gulf region’s diplomatic activities aimed at fostering dialogue, managing crises, and bringing opposing parties closer together.
The conference, held in Istanbul under the theme "Partnerships and New Perspectives for Peace: Mediation in a Changing World," convened a diverse group of leaders, diplomats, international organisation representatives, and experts to discuss the evolving landscape of conflict resolution.
Albudaiwi emphasized that the GCC’s mediation efforts have garnered the confidence of the international community due to their balanced approach in addressing regional and global challenges. He noted that the council’s initiatives extend beyond the Gulf, motivated by the conviction that maintaining security and stability is a collective responsibility shared by all nations.
Highlighting peaceful dialogue and political solutions as the most effective tools for resolving conflicts, Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC’s commitment to supporting international peace efforts. He affirmed that members of the council will continue to build and strengthen partnerships with global actors to promote peace and security worldwide.
This stance reflects the GCC’s broader strategy of engaging in diplomacy as a means to manage tensions and foster sustainable peace in multiple conflict-affected areas, signaling their enhanced role on the global stage in mediation and peacebuilding initiatives.
