The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is advancing efforts to strengthen regional emergency response capabilities through enhanced collaboration and updated joint planning, officials said following a recent meeting in Kuwait.
Brigadier General Dr. Rashid Al-Marri, head of the GCC Emergency Management Center, emphasized the center’s ongoing commitment to working with authorities across member states to develop and continually revise unified emergency plans. These plans aim to improve preparedness and response to potential threats and crises throughout the Gulf region.
The announcement came after the conclusion of the seventh meeting of the Technical Sub-Committee of the Emergency Plans Working Group, held from June 22 to 24. The three-day event, hosted by the Emergency Management Center in Kuwait, gathered representatives from emergency management agencies across the GCC, in addition to technical experts specializing in crisis response and risk assessment.
Al-Marri said the meeting underscored the center’s role under the directives of the GCC Secretary-General to reinforce collective action frameworks and elevate readiness levels across member states. He noted that the center functions as a technical arm, providing early warning systems, continuous monitoring, and risk assessments concerning hazards with potential regional impact.
By supplying critical information, analysis, and technical assistance, the center seeks to enhance situational awareness, accelerate decision-making processes, and boost operational readiness among GCC countries. These measures are intended to achieve tighter integration of emergency response mechanisms and technical coordination within the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Discussion topics during the meeting included the review of existing operational protocols, joint coordination procedures, and implementation plans aimed at improving emergency response efficiency. Participants also addressed various recommendations designed to reinforce regional cooperation and ensure a harmonized approach to crisis management throughout the member states.
The GCC Emergency Management Center continues to position itself as a pivotal institution supporting the region’s resilience against diverse risks, aiming for effective and synchronized responses to emergencies that could affect the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
