Generaltec, a homegrown appliance brand based in the United Arab Emirates, is broadening its offerings by entering the commercial air conditioning sector through the launch of a new facility called ClimaLab. The initiative aims to assist businesses in adopting customised, energy-efficient cooling systems to meet rising demand for environmentally responsible technology that can lower energy consumption and operational costs.

Khawar Hussain, Founder and CEO of Generaltec, highlighted the technical complexity involved in providing variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems. He noted that such solutions require experienced engineers capable of performing precise heat-load calculations and tailored installations that suit specific building requirements. ClimaLab has been established to bring together customers and engineering experts under one roof, allowing them to demonstrate the technology and design bespoke systems for individual commercial properties.

This development represents a significant evolution for Generaltec, which started its journey in 2001 with a single product—a twin-tub washing machine. Hussain, who arrived in the UAE in 1993 and initially worked in technical support within the HVAC industry, saw an opportunity to offer appliances combining competitive pricing, reliable quality, and responsive aftersales service. Starting with limited capital and the challenges of building a new brand, he focused on a single affordable product. Profits from early sales were then reinvested to expand the company’s portfolio to include freezers, refrigerators, and a variety of other household appliances.

Today, Generaltec’s lineup includes more than 250 products, and the brand sells in over 50 countries across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, and Southeast Asia. The company has had to adapt its products to meet the diverse electrical standards, climate conditions, and regulatory frameworks of these international markets. Throughout its expansion, aftersales support has remained a core priority to maintain customer trust and satisfaction.

With the introduction of ClimaLab, Generaltec is positioning itself to meet the increasing business demand for cooling technologies that not only improve energy efficiency but also contribute to sustainability goals in the commercial sector.
